We have all seen it on television, wide open expanses of African plain; zoom in onto an antelope giving birth, the babies legs appear, then its head and now the rest. It drops to the ground the mother turns and licks it, struggling to it's feet the baby starts to suckle, no stress, no obvious pain or discomfort and all very calm. So why can't that happen with humans?
In our western society girls are brought up to perceive birth as extremely painful, hospital dramas portray the birthing experience as drawn out and uncomfortable, they seldom show the easy births, it wouldn't be good theatre. Yet there are women in other cultures of the world that give birth calmly and quietly because this is how they are told it will be.
Clinical hypnotherapy gives you control over your mind and body.
It produces calmness and relaxation, physically and mentally, and
therefore reduces pain, fluctuating blood pressure, anxiety, stress and
nausea.
Labour time is shortened and less discomfort felt so fewer drugs are
needed; the whole experience is calmer, less stressful and less
exhausting for you and your baby.
Following an initial consultation you will need three sessions for
the birthing hypnosis. You may need one or two more sessions if you
have particular issues, such as phobias, that need to be dealt with.
It will be beneficial to you if your partner comes to the first one or
two sessions with you; they can then experience hypnosis with you and
be prepared to assist you later on.
It is best to start sessions from around the 5th or 6th month of pregnancy. This will allow plenty of time for you to practice self-hypnosis and listen to the hypnosis C.Ds which you will be given.
There are no side effects related to Hypnotherapy. It is as simple and as natural as meditation or daydreaming.
